Learn about YAT's new location at central state

YAT at Central State Village
Frequently Asked Questions

We are happy to announce that all YAT programming this fall will be taking place at Central State. With dedicated indoor and outdoor rehearsal space, free parking, and a lot of cool new neighbors, we think that you'll love this new location as much as we do.

What is Central State?

It was Indiana’s "mental" hospital and is now an important part of our state history! Reverie Estates developed most of the remaining once-endangered historic buildings into a pedestrian friendly multi-acre campus featuring co-living, a coffeehouse, event (1899) and commercial spaces just south of the Indiana Medical History Museum which has long called Central State home - learn more about our new digs and their surroundings here.

Why the new location?

We have lots of possibilities for COVID compliant rehearsals here!

  1. There is a lot of green space, so rehearsal can be outside when the weather permits!
  2. We will be able to use our own building, so the spaces and restrooms will only be trafficked by us!
  3. We have two LARGE rehearsal spaces that will allow for lots of room for socially distancing in rehearsal.

But I’ll miss sitting in the coffee shop before rehearsal.

Have no fear! Café Mansión Coffee + Treats is here in the Mansion's oh-so-fresh (and overlooking-a-pool) lobby. The Mansion is our neighbor right across the parking lot from our space and they have WiFi open to the public!

How far away is this?

It’s only 15 minutes from the Athenaeum, 15 minutes from I-65, 10 minutes from the Indianapolis Zoo, and 5 minutes from I-70. Plus, it’s in the middle of a much less trafficked neighborhood, and there is a big (free!) parking lot. Our staff is allowing the same amount of time to get there as they did the Athenaeum, even though it’s a little further for most of us, because it’s so easy to park and go in!

But I’ll miss being in a cultural district.

Welcome to a NEW cultural district! Central State Village is a growing art and design hub, with lots of cool businesses (including Ignition Arts and People for Urban Progress) right on its campus. We are down the street from the exciting Fonseca Theatre, as well as Indy Convergence. We are excited to join in!

What about other amenities?

The Mansion is developing a "club" membership program that would offer access to the pool, gym, sauna, small movie theater and more. We are working on getting a special deal for YAT families! In addition to Café Mansión intending to expand their food offerings, there are also several local Mexican restaurants, we are down the street from “The Best Cheeseburger in Indiana,” and only a few minutes away is famous Long’s Bakery Doughnuts! Not to mention, Central State and its wooded Grove is full of green space, mature trees and pathways to enjoy with even more enhancements to the public Grove space planned in the future!

I have other questions/concerns.

And we have answers! Reach out to us at and we’ll be happy to help out.
